"“You have a lot to offer,' Shelby told Romney, who characterized his own state as the “most liberal in the nation.'
“I think it is not the state you represent, it is what you believe in and what you stand for and you have done an outstanding job,' Shelby said.
He was not, however, ready to issue any endorsements for 2008 Sunday.
“This is just getting started and although Mitt is the first [potential GOP presidential hopeful] to visit Tuscaloosa, I think we will see a lot more of them before the election in 2008,' Shelby said. “We have a lot of good candidates available, and a lot of them are good friends of mine.'"
