Romney seeks to strengthen his social conservative creds in S.C.

CNN.com - Romney seeks to strengthen his social conservative creds in S.C. (scroll down):
"Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) was hailed yesterday by a South Carolina organization for helping to fund its effort to convince Palmetto State voters to classify marriage as a union between a man and a woman by amending the state Constitution in November. The praise should help Romney further solidify his credentials as a social conservative in South Carolina, one of the early proving grounds in a presidential campaign."

This is an excellent move on his part, since there's been some scuttlebutt that he might have problems with the evangelical vote in the South, since some Evangelicals have been hoodwinked into believing that Mormonism is a cult. This move will dispel some of that suspicion.

Personally, I would prefer Tom Tancredo as the Republican Presidential candidate because of his outspoken advocacy for comprehensive immigration reform. But Mitt Romney would make an excellent running mate, offering geographical balance and maybe rounding off Tancredo's rough edges a bit.
